Life at Artemis House
Many of the cats who come to us have known fear, neglect, illness, abandonment, or life outdoors without reliable food, shelter, or protection. Before anything else, they need to know that they are safe: that food will come, that they will have a warm and dry place to sleep, that no one will hurt them, and that they can rest without constantly being on guard.
Set on six wooded acres in Archer, Florida (Alachua County), the sanctuary is designed around the cats rather than around cages. Our main outdoor sanctuary area is secured with Purrfect Fence cat-containment fencing, designed to keep our cats safely inside while helping keep predators out. Within that protected space, residents have access to indoor and outdoor areas, shaded porches, sunrooms, enclosed gardens, shelters, trees, climbing areas, sofas, and quiet places to sleep or retreat when they want solitude.
Some spend their days stretched out in the sun or watching birds from a porch. Others explore the greenery, climb, play, or gradually learn to approach people for affection. Each cat is given the time and space to settle in at their own pace.
Different spaces are designed for different needs. Cats who are elderly, recovering from illness, medically vulnerable, or in need of closer observation can stay in quieter, protected areas. FeLV-positive cats have their own dedicated sanctuary space.
For some cats, Artemis House is a temporary refuge while they heal and prepare for adoption. For others, because of age, health, temperament, or circumstance, this may become their permanent home.
Our goal is simple: to give every cat the security to relax, the care they need to heal, and the chance to thrive.

What we do
We take in cats who are abandoned, displaced, injured, or at risk. Every rescue begins with safety, compassion, and a stable place to land.
Rescue
Some cats arrive with visible injuries or illness. Others carry wounds that take longer to show. We provide medical care, consistency, and a place to rebuild trust.
Rehabilitate
When adoption is the right path, we carefully match cats with safe, loving homes where they can continue to thrive.
Rehome
Some cats stay with us for life due to age or health. For them, Artemis House is home—a place of safety, care, companionship, and belonging.
Sanctuary
The Healing Garden
Cats living with feline leukemia are often overlooked or considered difficult to place, and some are still euthanized simply because of their diagnosis.
At Artemis House, we have built a dedicated sanctuary space for them: a safe place to rest, play, enjoy fresh air and sunshine, and receive the care they need.
The Healing Garden is our commitment to giving FeLV-positive cats the chance to live with comfort, companionship, and dignity.
